Listen to the report

At least 68 miners have been killed and 79 are missing after a large explosion at a state-owned colliery in China.

The blast happened on Sunday night when 221 miners were underground. So far 74 workers have been helped to safety.

Rescue efforts are continuing to try and free those who remain trapped in the Dongfeng mine near Qitaihe city, in the Heilongjiang province.

China's mines are considered very dangerous. This year 3,000 people have already died in mining accidents.

It's believed this accident was caused by an explosion of coal-dust, which broke the ventilation systems in the pit.
Officials at the rescue headquarters said it was possible that more trapped miners could still be pulled out alive.
