POIROT
Mr MacQueen, I kept you waiting, I was busy with the certifying. Do sit down !
I’d like you to tell me as much as you know.

MacQUEEN
Excuse-me, let me ask you something before. Who are you?
Why are you asking us questions?

BOUC
Excuse-me. M. Poirot is the detective who is officially in charge of the investigation.
I have personally chosen him.

POIROT
Let’s go back to the question. What relationship did you have with Mr Ratchett?

MacQUEEN
I am, I mean…. I was his secretary.

POIROT
Since when?

MacQUEEN
For about a year.

POIROT
What was your job?

MacQUEEN
We travelled a lot. Except for French, he couldn’t speak any other languages.
So I was both his secretary and translator.

POIROT
Do you know where he came from in America?

MacQUEEN
No, I didn’t ask him any questions. I had the impression that he was afraid of something or someone.
This impression became true.

BOUC
Why so?

MacQUEEN
When he received some threatening letters – have a look !

POIROT
“Beware – I kill killers!” “Prepare to die”

BOUC
It’s quite clear!

POIROT
Did he receive other letters?

MacQUEEN
Yes, but he burnt them.

POIROT
That’s why I need a wire netting so much!
